Who is J.A.W.?
Jason Alan West is a Texas dirt lawyer. That means that most every case he handles involves property in some way, shape, or form.
In West’s 22 years of courtroom experience, he has litigated cases in 123 Texas counties, 17 states, and 3 foreign countries - representing individuals, property owners, financial institutions, oil and gas companies, heavy equipment designers and manufacturers, hundreds of small businesses, and a handful of Fortune 500 companies.
West began his legal career working for the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Tyler, TX and New Orleans, LA under the Honorable Robert M. Parker. After that, he worked for a prestigious Dallas law firm heading their mentorship program, then founded two successful law firms in Longview, TX, and then started an energy service company to assist in the oil and gas fracing process, while being named in Texas Monthly as a Rising Star and Super Lawyer seven times. In some parts of Oklahoma, he is reportedly known as “the jury whisperer.”
West was educated at TCU, Texas Tech, SMU Law School, and the University of Salamanca, Spain. At TCU, he was Sergeant at Arms for his fraternity. At Texas Tech, he obtained his B.A in Economics magna cum laude graduating with the highest GPA in the Economics Department. At SMU, he obtained his juris doctorate and was the managing editor of the International Law Review, taught legal writing to first year law students, and presented Guerrilla Tactics for obtaining your dream job to the entire school. While studying Spanish on a full scholarship at Universidad de Salamanca, he participated in the Encierro in Pamplona, Spain also known as “the running of the bulls”.
Throughout his career, Jason has been a frequent speaker and writer. Among other appearances, he presented Negotiating with a Gorilla at the Texas State Bar Convention in Houston and Show Me the Money at the National Conference of the Association of Energy Service Companies (AESC) in San Diego. He has volunteered on numerous boards involving student scholarships and is Past President of the following organizations: Pine Tree High School Education Foundation, AESC East Texas Chapter, and The Cherokee Club.
West has many hobbies (archery, barbecuing, boating, coaching basketball, and acting - appearing in one movie Home Sweet Hell and three episodes of the television series Landman), but his favorite hobby is announcing sporting events. As an emcee, he has announced 331 games (123 basketball, 27 baseball, 59 football, and 122 volleyball). Before moving his family to Fort Worth, West was the voice of the Pine Tree Pirate football team in East Texas for seven years. For the last five years, Jason has been the voice of Paschal High School Athletics and was the 2025 recipient of the Kirk Jefferies Paschal Service Award.
Above all, however, West considers fatherhood to be his greatest life experience. He says, “raising two gorgeous girls who are both smart and athletic taught me more about myself and life in general than any case or class ever did.”
